The One Thing You Can Not Afford

Over the past few days I’ve been hearing this repeatedly in my mind, “You can not afford it…you can not afford it!” As I began to ponder on this thought I found myself coming into agreement with it and even saying it aloud. “I can not afford it. I absolutely can not afford it!” I am now totally convinced and there is nothing or no one that can change my mind or persuade me otherwise.

As I transition into this next season I am taking a look back over my life, especially my valley experiences that I am coming out of and my thoughts have been that of much GRATITUDE! It’s easy to sit and recap all the not-so-great moments I’ve had and “get all in my feelings” so to speak. However, I choose to reflect on HOW God protected me, loved on me in one of my darkest hours, continued to provide for me where I NEVER saw lack of no kind! He eased my pain and burdens to allow me to rest IN Him! I appreciate life and understand just how precious it really is. I am truly GRATEFUL beyond what I am able to articulate. Take a few moments and think of one thing (I know that one will be followed by ten more times ten more) that you’re grateful for and speak it into the atmosphere. See, when you look back you’re able to see where and what you’ve journeyed through…it’s looking ahead and TRUSTING God to guide you the rest of the way.

The one thing you absolutely can not afford to do is…GIVE UP!

Take Action – STAND!

There comes a point in your life where you are going to have to take a stand for righteousness, stand in faith, stand in opposition, stand when there’s nothing left for you to do! When looking at the word “stand” as a verb or action, it means to “to remain firm or steadfast, as in a cause” (www.dictionary.com).

I am taking a stand to share my faith in God with so many of you. I have scraped the bottom of the barrel to locate that one grain of Mustard Seed faith to keep me pushing ahead. Have there been times I’ve wanted to give up? Absolutely! Sometimes it seems as though the harder I pray the tougher the test is, however; my expectancy is I know God will work it out for His glory. All I have to do is stand! The Word of God says, “Now then, STAND still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!” (1 Samuel 12:16).

Even as life’s journey takes place and you KNOW your hope is in Christ Jesus, continue to “STAND firm, and you will win life” (Luke 21:19)! God knows the expected end for you. He won’t fail you no matter what or how things turn out. He is UNfailing! What you and I must continue to do is, “Be on your guard; STAND firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your STAND against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:10-11). These are just a few scriptures to STAND on and know that God’s promises are readily available and are activated through faith, prayer, and belief that truly with God ALL things are possible! We must do our part, yes…our position or action is to…

Stand.

The Small Still Voice

No sirens. No screeching. No screaming. No yelling. It’s only the sound of His small still voice. Do you find yourself weary at times just from the waves of life? Do you feel as though you’re on the hamster’s wheel of life at times? Or how about wanting just a break from it all and have some peace? *Hands raised!* It’s the small still voice that says, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:29 NKJV).

God does not want us entangled in the enemy’s devices and schemes. Even those things that lie deep within that causes us to fall short in front of the Holy God of Israel! There is Good News! We have a Remnant! His name is Jesus Christ! He wants to take our filth, setbacks, heartbreaks, heartaches, pain, brokenness, and weaknesses and EXCHANGE it for liberty IN Him! Picture the Cross and the sacrifice that He made. Jesus wants “…To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of The Lord, that He may be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3 NKJV).

The stillness of His voice is calling out to you. There is NOTHING that you have done, is doing, or will do that will not qualify you from receiving His love. You only have to believe! “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9 NKJV).

He is speaking.

Pearls of Wisdom ~ Stand Guard

I am reminded of the scripture that says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23 NLT). When I sit still and think back on some of the choices I’ve made, with all of its best intentions, when it comes to the matter of “love” it has not always turned out favorable. That does not in no way cast blame on the other person because after all, each person is responsible for their own actions. The Bible, particularly in the Book of Proverbs, shares a lot about the wise and the foolish person. “Wise people think before they act; fools don’t—and even brag about their foolishness” (Proverbs 13:16 NLT). Trust me, I have found some of my own identifiers when it comes to being foolish. When you don’t choose to exercise wisdom or seek after it, your plans and everything in it will turn to folly. Ask me how I know!

I’m sure many of you reading this blog have experienced your heart being broken or disappointed and it feels like the healing will never take place. Your thought process is on repeat as to the turn of events and are in full 3-D in your mind and on surround sound. Many emotions are flooding ranging from embarrassment, hurt, guilt, shock, confusion, blame, anger, frustration, doubt, disappointment, betrayal, lack of peace, sadness, etc. The list can go on and on. I just wanted to plug in that you’re not alone and this too shall pass. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows]” (Psalm 147:3 AMP).

*NUGGETS** – To the single ladies (this includes those dating too):
•Develop your own personal mission statement when it comes to relationships or dating. Find balance. For instance, every man that breezes into your life is not possibly “the one”. Yes, when you meet someone new it is always a breath of “fresh air” blowing your way in comparison to your last dating experience. How many times have you heard or even said that yourself? I’m not saying anything is wrong with it just put EVERYTHING into perspective.
•If your preference is to not be in the company of a man who drinks, smokes, and/or uses profanity, why make exceptions to your own “rules”? Why is THIS time ok? It doesn’t mean you’re being judgmental, it’s your preference.
•Don’t apologize for being who you are. Your personality is what makes you unique when you’re exercising good morals and obedience to God in regards to your personal relationship with Christ and overall being genuinely nice person. Don’t allow your meekness to be interpreted as weakness. When weakness is displayed, it’s like a silent alarm!

Take these small token of wisdom pearls and stand “guard” around your heart…Stay tuned!

The Fragmented Heart

A whole heart is strong, content, courageous, fearless, faith-filled, victorious, at peace, loves the LORD, and fully trust God. I challenged myself with this question, “Have I loved God with a whole heart?” Sadly to say, my answer was, “No.” Does this mean I do not love God? Absolutely NOT! When we allow people or things to enter into the most intricate areas of our heart it causes an immediate breach in our relationship with the LORD. Partly due to a subtle shifting that is beginning to take place. As I studied in God’s Word, “So if you faithfully love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul…” (Deut 11:13). God releases His promises of what He will do in exchange for a willing heart that will obey. He also declares, “Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them” (Deut 11:16). God shares with us how subtle things can happen when we’re not careful…that moment when our attention is diverted. Little things begin to chip away at our hearts that ultimately the fragmenting process to take place.

God is so serious about being the One to have our WHOLE heart. When I experience heartache or disappointment regarding matters of the heart — it is definitely time to do “self-inventory.” Please do not get me wrong – there is nothing wrong with loving others (we are commanded to love one another) – Love is BEAUTIFUL! Love is God’s handiwork – Love is God’s fingerprint – God is love!

When there are intrusions of the heart God will never fight for position for what belongs to Him. He is our Creator. He waits patiently for our return back to Him. God will not allow NOTHING to separate HIS love from us but when we allow sin to enter in — WE break the covenant with our Creator! “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). Thanks be unto our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our Redeemer — that with a repentative heart — He restores us back into a rightful relationship with the Father who starts the process of healing our “Fragmented Heart!”

Trapped Inside of Me – “CELEBRATE!”

Trapped Inside of Me – “CELEBRATE!”

I wanted to start this blog off with one of my favorite songs from the “Dream Girls” movie soundtrack by R&B Singer, Jennifer Hudson, titled “I Am Changing”.  (Please click the link in the middle to play.) Please listen carefully to the words and I hope it encourages you wherever needed. Every time I listen to it I get something different out of it and although it is a secular song I find a little inspiration to press forward! ~Enjoy

Celebrate this moment – JUST BECAUSE you can! I have good news to report…I am happy to celebrate that six pounds of me are FREE! I finally bought a scale (HA!) and although I was apprehensive about getting on it; I finally did the inevitable  and WHAM! The numbers are moving “to the left…to the left…to the left”! Now I am sure I could have done better but I must admit that I slacked at going to the gym the past couple of weeks. I had a little setback and I am now trying to get back on track. My goal for next week is to be free of two more pounds. WAIT! I guess I should share what I am exactly doing to assist with my lifestyle change to becoming healthier. Well, I started Weight Watchers online with a dear friend of mine and also an awesome accountability partner. What I have learned through Weight Watchers is portion control. It has been the most awesome transition I have dedicated myself to doing. I do treat myself to certain things as a mild celebration but I grind hard to stay focused. Yes, I count points and it helps me to consider carefully what I want to eat. I now eat more fruits than I ever have because I used to prefer sweet treats instead that would pack on not only the inches but the pounds as well. So, I NOW enjoy eating blueberries, strawberries, mangoes, raisins, and apples and find that it is actually quite satisfying and takes care of those sweet treat cravings.

Whether you have lost a quarter of a pound or one…CELEBRATE! Pat yourself on the back and be proud of yourself for passing up that doughnut or that bag of Lay’s Potato Chips. If you have given up one can of soda this week for a bottle of water instead – GOOD FOR YOU! I am not big on drinking sodas but I had a hard time just drinking water so one thing that I do to “motivate” myself to drink water is use Crystal Light water enhancers (flavors) or you can add lemon juice. Eventually your body will start craving just good ole plain water and I LOVE it now! Find your substitution for the things you love to eat but are not loving you back and open yourself up to CELEBRATING with YOU in mind! I would LOVE for you to share with me what changes you have made for the NEW KIND OF YOU!

Trapped Inside of Me – “ACCOUNTABILITY!”

This week has been challenging week for me. Yes, I face days where I just want to give up and post my “Whatever!” sign on the outside of the door and sulk. Let me share a little confession to set the stage to where I’m going in this blog. Earlier this week I got knocked down pretty hard in my emotions and I stopped at McDonald’s and ordered a small fry and a chicken sandwich. As I was eating the food I felt guilty and embarrassed because I did not enjoy it at all and I was more upset with what was going on inside of me and wanted to avoid dealing with it. Afterwards, I stopped at the store and to my dismay I picked up a candy bar. Yep! I sure did! As soon as I got in the car I called one of my close friends and the first thing I said was, “I have a confession to make.” I proceeded to admit that I had bought a candy bar but at this point I am NOW aware that wasn’t the candy bar that I wanted but the need to feed what was going inside of me. I further went on to explain that I had stopped by McDonald’s and how I felt afterwards. What a relief it was to get that OFF MY CHEST!

The reason I felt relieved is because I had to face the one thing that I used to avoid and that was ACCOUNTABILITY! I could have eaten the fast food and the candy bar (by the way, I did NOT eat the candy bar!) and no one would have ever known and it would have just been my little secret. I am accountable to what I put inside my body and in my strides to desire to be healthy I would have only been harming myself instead. I can not sit and write these blogs and bring awareness to obesity and encourage readers to be healthy if I am not honest with myself or you. No one wakes up one day and decide they are going to be 500 pounds. Something happens that sets an individual down this path and is totally consumed by food and the will to stop is overpowered. Although there are many reasons as I have explained in previous blogs that are underlying issues to obesity – there is still the factor of accountability. There may be factors that happen in an individual’s life that render this unfortunate circumstance but at the end of the day each individual is accountable for the choice that is made. I acknowledge the choice I made and also owned it and used it as a catalyst to move on! I didn’t stay there because I became accountable for my actions no matter what the offset was that led to it. That was not always the case in past times so I know that I am progressing.

I give thanks to God because I am also accountable to Him, first! Let me share this with you: “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking around life and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” (Romans 12:1, MSG) Please find someone who you can be accountable to when you fall or are falling so that you may be encouraged and truthfully face what is before you. Check your emotions. Ask yourself, “Why am I eating this?” More importantly, ask yourself, “Am I honoring God with my body?” My desire is to encourage you to avoid these pitfalls that I missed in hopes that you’re able to detect these triggers early on. We’ll revisit accountability again… I’m on a mission, will you join me!? *Please watch the video in its entirety by Yolanda Adams and I pray it encourages you as it has me. Don’t EVER GIVE UP! ~Blessings!
